I'm Moving to Neverland.
Hello my lovelies!
How was everyone's summer? I don't know about you all but I could really use another week or two of laying on the beach and getting tan... ish. Okay, sunburnt. The sun is not always kind to fair skinned people, alright? A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to make herself look slightly less ghostlike :) I'm just kidding. I actually worked as a lifeguard this summer so by the time I got to the beach, I had just enough color to ensure that I didn't blind anyone!
Its been quite some time since I last updated this blog and I thought I would just jump right back into it because no one wants to hear a play by play of the last five months, no matter how interesting I think I am!
So I finished out my sophomore year, which means I am halfway finished with college and only two short years away from... adulthood *shutters*. I am not a fan of the idea of becoming an adult. Like at all. I mean I know there's some upsides, like actually making a decent wage and not having to go to class ever again, but there are certain things I really like about being a college student and I have no desire for them to change. For example:
1. I get to room with some of the coolest people in the history of the world.
Seriously, I've come to find in these past couple of weeks that waking up, walking out my bedroom door and being greeted by three other people who are just as exhausted as I am is actually pretty awesome. We get to just hangout in our pjs and watch netflix whenever we don't have class and drink a frightening amount of coffee. There is always someone to do things with and people to talk you down from the cliff when you realize you forgot that paper due tomorrow morning. Boys are great for killing spiders and stuff but theres just something supremely awesome about living with girls.
2. Everyone is just as poor as you are.
The phrase "I'm in college" roughly translates to "I'm poor, please give me money for gas" when spoken to anyone who has made it through college before. All your friends totally understand when your suggestion for getting food is MacDonald's dollar menu and most importantly, no one judges you for eating pasta five nights in a row because all that's left in the pantry is ramen and spam. If I have to be an adult, I have to actually cook things... with groceries... that I bought... with the money I made from my job... I'll just go boil some water.
3. Home still feels like home.
When you're in college, your home with your family is still your home. If you're lucky like I am, your mom still gets really excited for you to come home and she'll even let you join in for family dinners! (Its not ramen!!) You're parents haven't turned your room into an in-home gym or a craft room, you have places to store your summer clothes during the winter and your groceries are paid for during your visit. Friends come back from all ends of the earth and you get free snacks while hanging out with the people who know and love you the best.
4. There is always something to do.
Whether its at three am on a Monday night or two pm on a Sunday, something is happening. Granted, most things happening in the wee hours of a Monday morning are probably not a good investment of your time (I personally am a fan of sleeping during that portion of my week but that's just me). Being bored in college is almost unheard of if you're open to trying new things. There are sporting events, greek events, SGA functions, guest speakers, theater productions, you name it. And that's just the school sponsored events. Just getting a group of friends together to watch the season premiere of a show can turn a regular weeknight into an awesome evening of fun.
5. Its okay to not know.
College is a time of learning about ourselves and learning about the world. It's a time to ask questions like "what's does refinancing mean?" and "what am I going to do with the rest of my life?" (coincidentally, those are two questions I have recently asked). The great thing about being a college student is that you are in the real world, but not really. You can change your mind if you want. You can take a required course and realize that's what you want to major in. You have the opportunity to explore and see what's out there, actually, that's what is expected of you. Its okay to ask questions and switch your major to nursing for a while because you've watch Grey's Anatomy so many times you could probably do brain surgery in your sleep! *Cough cough you know who you are* :)
What I'm trying to say is that college has been the best time in my life thus far and I'm not ready to be in the "real world" just yet. I mean, at what other point in your life is it acceptable to start your day at noon and still be seen as a functioning member of society?
Either way, I can't wait for another year at Towson. I can tell its going to be a good one!
